South County Music Program

Youth Music Monterey's South County program involves formal partnerships between YMM and South County school districts, including Monterey County Home Charter School, San Antonio Union School, and Bradley Union School. A team of instructors provide violin, viola, and cello instruction in private or group lessons either during the school day or immediately following. Students are not charged for the lessons. YMM and the schools share the cost of the instructors' salaries. YMM provides students with instruments for a modest monthly rental cost.

The South County Music Program of Youth Music Monterey is expanding its music program to include winds, brass and strings and is currently looking for schools, school districts, and communities in the South County areas with the following characteristics to participate in our new program:

  •  Teachers, Administrators, and Parental/Community support for starting an in-school or after-school string program

  •  Located in communities where we can foster long-term relationships with the administration and community members in order to build a sustainable program

  • Have the potential to assume financial and administrative support for the program as it matures and becomes viable

  • Partnerships with local businesses and individuals who demonstrate an interest in the music program, including the potential to help with obtaining instruments or other material needs

  • Willingness to provide physical space for lessons, support for scheduling, and other related structural needs.

YMM will provide assistance in setting up the program's structure, including hiring local teachers. We will also provide professional training to the selected teacher by experts in the field of music education, as well as a personal mentor who will work on-site and over the phone and via email as it gets up and running.

For further information on this exciting new venture, please contact Vanisha Douvon, Program Manager, outlining why you think your location is the right place for us to launch this program, and how we can work together to help meet a community need. Her contact information is 831-375-1992 or email vevans@youthmusicmonterey.org

We look forward to hearing from you and getting started on a project that we hope leads to the development of a sustainable music program in your community.
