OITS makes instrumental music available to all interested students from Monterey Bay Area public, independent, and home schools. No auditions are needed for 4th through 8th graders. Younger students are admitted at the discretion of the Music Director, Jim Paoletti. Classes are held on Mondays during the school year from 4:00 - 6:15 pm at All Saints’ Day School.

Colleagues of the Arts
COTA provides funding for gifted students in fine arts training.
Gifted young people in need of financial or mentor support to develop their artistic talents, who are full-time residents of Monterey County and 25 years of age or younger. Students qualify based upon their need, and that the student exhibits a particular talent, motivation and a desire to pursue their artistic talent. Focus is on artistically gifted youth, especially those from low-income families, and provide opportunities for success tailored to each individual student in all the arts disciplines.
Eligible assistance may include requests for monetary awards to cover lessons, workshops, programs, auditions, instruments, supplies or other appropriate expenses. Award range depends on demonstrated need.

Carmel Bach Festival

Musical Opportunities

This is a wonderful local music scholarship, which many YMM members have benefited from in the past. The funds can be used for private lessons and more.
CMEA offers two scholarship programs, a summer camp tuition scholarship, and a need/talent based general music scholarship. Information about both programs can be found on this site.
Regional/National Competitions and Honor Ensembles
This is the California state Honors Orchestra, hosted each year by CMEA. All available information about the program, schedule, and deadlines... as well as downloadable applications and audition information, is available at this site.

Music and Arts Education Advocacy
These pages are intended to help generate awareness about the current state of music and arts education within the YMM community. As many of you know, music education has endured unprecedented cuts to funding in many parts of Monterey County (and throughout California) related to the state's fiscal deficits and the implementation of No Child Left Behind, which has resulted in the depletion or elimination of music education programs in many of our community's public schools. The following links will help you keep up-to-date on this critical situation, as well as provide you with various ways to contribute to the fight to restore and preserve this extremely valuable educational avenue for generations of Monterey County residents.The Arts Council provides arts education to thousands of students each year thanks to support from local PTAs, foundations, businesses and individuals. We provide promotional, technical and financial support to over fifty arts organizations thanks to funding from the Monterey County Board of Supervisors and a grant from the David and Lucile Packard Foundation.

Another wonderful state organization, which has a powerful voice in Sacramento and played a huge role in lobbying for the recent record-breaking state budget appropriations for arts education in CA public schools. This site will provide you with current updates on legislation, advocacy tips, and more, as well as providing an Advocacy Action Update newsletter that you can sign up to receive.

Amazing resource for California based arts education advocates. The CAC is a government subsidized organization that works to advance arts education across the state. Here you'll find an Advocacy Toolkit and recent articles about the condition of arts education in California.

Support Music Coalition
This is an incredible national coalition, with more than 140 affiliates across the U.S., which provides invaluable support to organizations working on music education advocacy issues. YMM is an official affiliate of this coalition, and we are actively involved with many aspects of the program. On the site you will find an immense amount of information about what's happening across the country in regards to music education, including: podcasts, articles by the acclaimed music advocate Dr. John Benham, surveys that help you rate your school's music program, contests, and toolkits for budding music education activists.
